The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mrs. Gertrude Oduka has suspended the Principal of the Senior Section of Community Secondary School, Orogwe, Mr. Gabriel Nwogu and that of Senior Section of Government Technical College, Owerri, Mr. Godwin Nwaimo for extorting money from parents and guardians, thereby causing pains and hardship to them.
Mrs. Oduka, while announcing this in her office, directed them to handover to the next persons.
She also announced the immediate suspension of the Principal Senior Section of Emmanuel College, Owerri, Mr. Hyginus Amaechi for the collection of cutlasses, brooms and tissue papers from the students.
The Education Commissioner stressed that the Rescue Mission Government since 2011 had removed pains and hardship from parents and guardians, but expressed regret that some Principals were trying to scuttle this by harassing parents and guardians who came for change of school or admission for their children and wards.
She said, despite her warnings to the Principals on several occasions against any form of extortion under any guise, some of them flouted the directive.
Mrs. Oduka added that more names of identified erring Principals would be announced for suspension and advised them in their own interest, to refund without delay the money they collected to the affected parents and guardians.
