The Imo State Commissioner for Works and Transport, Chief (Mrs.) Josephine Udorji has advised Imo people to be patient with government for Governor Rochas Okorocha means well for the state.

Speaking after going round to monitor the level of the cleanup exercise last Saturday, 30th July 2016, she said Imo people have keyed into the vision of the Rescue Mission government as people turned out massively and all hands were on deck to clean up the gutters, drainages and environment. She assured that with the clean up exercise over, the evacuation of refuse will commence immediately.

The Commissioner stated that they have been at Orji, Owerri North Local Government Area to ascertain the level of the erosion menace going on there. She remarked that they cannot do anything now for construction work is not done during the rainy season but promised that something good is coming from her ministry soon. She said they are going to check the erosion and drainage problems as well as evacuate and de-silt the gutters because they are prepared to keep Imo clean.

Mrs. Udorji disclosed that under the Rescue Mission government, Imo State has emerged the first position as the neatest state and Imo will be the first again and called on Imolites to support government in its effort to take the state to a greater height in environmental sanitation and hygiene. She maintained that after the rainy season, government will make the roads better but now, they have Operation Zero potholes.

The Commissioner stressed that government now is wondering the roads and said all that the people are expecting from them, government will give it to Imo people. On the drainages around Douglas road, Chief (Mrs.) Udorji stated that when she assumed office, she visited the place on three occasions and was able to see the bad shape of the road and gullies. They moved ahead to start work on the roads but the indigenes refused and wanted to burn their caterpillar. She noted that it is an eye sore, “we are ever ready, if they can allow us to work, we are willing to move to the place”.

On her ministry’s Public Works Department (PWD) she reiterated that they have seven zonal areas and with the help of her engineers, they will do well because her ministry has able engineers and they train them. She noted that they are doing their best for there is a round peg in a round hole, saying “Owelle Rochas Okorocha is working, he has made a difference from others”.
