Imo State Commissioner of police CP Taiwo Lakanu has called on government establishments and agencies to immediately start to accord priority to the implementation of Local content policy, where ever they operate to foster peace, security and stability which will in turn guarantee conducive environment for their operation.

The  police commissioner who made the call in his office in Owerri last week while interacting with the executive of Onyeaghalanwanneya Youth Movement OYM, the umbrella youth body of host communities of the Sam Mbakwe Airport (SMICA), Ngor-Okpala, posited that the call has become necessary to help reduce security breaches linked to agitations by various communities and people hosting government offices for adequate compensated.

 He opined that taking steps to ensure that those in whose lands these agencies are located are carried along in policies like employment would also reduce the tendency to resort to agitation to get their due rights. The commissioner who expressed dissatisfaction with the current level of compliance with local content law by government agencies especially in regard to employment of hosts communities stressed that it was important they do so to complement governments effort toward building a secure, peaceful and prosperous nation.

 He commended the youths for their sense of maturity and decorum which has made them embrace the option of dialogue and negotiation in trying to get the authorities of the Federal Airports Authority FAAN, give them their due rights as the airport host communities pointing out that the state police command would continue to assist them to actualize their legitimate ambition.

Earlier in his speech, Comrade Chukwuma Anuforo, OYM president had told the commissioner about the protracted struggle of the body to get authorities of FAAN employ their youths as compensation for their inheritance forfeited for the project regretting however, that the they have refused to hearken to their yearning.

According to him FAAN at a point sent two members of their management staff to negotiate with the youth body a development which he said made them believe that at last they would be employed adding that  almost three years after, the dream is yet to materialize.
