The International Igbo Women Awards ( IIWA) 2016 which is the first of its kind, is founded by Nena Ubani, a community leader who is very passionate about promoting Igbo culture on the global scene.

The award is geared at recognizing the achievements of Igbo Women around the globe, especially those who have defiled all constraints to maintain their status as true Igbo women.

A post on the official website of the awards, www.igbowomenaward.com reads: “Igbo Women Award was established with the aim of recognizing and also appreciating Igbo women across the globe for their great achievement and work. Igbo women are known for their strength and resilience. They have continued to excel in all areas of life. Focus, drive, determination, ambition, passion, talent are just some of the characteristics that are embedded in this women we have chosen to honour in a celebratory way. This is the maiden edition’

With 12 categories already listed, the award will honour all Igbo women of great repute, who have marked tremendous achievements both at home and abroad. It will also aim at invoking a unique consciousness in Igbo women across the world, to inspire and encourage them to always be at the frontline in any field they find themselves.

Best Humanitarian, Best Sports Personality, Best Educationalist, Best Media Personality, Best Author,
Best Actress, Best Fashion, Best Promoter/PR , Best Dance group, Best Women Group, Best Women Town Association, Best International Woman, are the listed categories and the founder Nena Ubani who is the only female executive in the Council of Igbo Communities as well a member of Igbo world Assembly, is aiming at making a huge mark with the initiative, especially with the support of well-meaning Igbo citizens from across the world.

Woman of Igbo descent with both or either parents from Abia, Anambra, Imo, Enugu, Ebonyi or Igbo speaking parts of Delta and Rivers States were nominated into the listed categories which were carefully picked to cover women in their many different roles.

The event will be taking place on August 27, 2016 at The Dream Centre, Town Hall Approach London N15 4RY.
