In an emotion laden letter in which he stated that it was with a heart full of pains and grievances that he was writing the letter, the SUG President drew the attention of the Governor to the deplorable, debilitating and agonizing situation of FUTOW/POLYNEK road.

Comr Obinna Ezenwa admonished the Governor to bear in mind that his mission to rescue Imolites is yet to be accomplished. He thus urged the Governor to without further delay commence the reconstruction and rehabilitations of the road.

While stating point blank that the aforementioned road is in a dilapidated state of disrepair, he added that it is nightmarish to the entire Nigerian Students of FEDPONEK and FUTOW who daily transverse the bad road since the road is no longer motorable. Crying out loud with embitterment and anguish, the President of FUTOW students averred that as a result of the ugly situation, transportation fares have astronomically gone up and unaffordable for students.

He regretted that the several letters he previously wrote to the Governor on the road in his capacity as students’ union leader under the auspices of Council of SUG Presidents and NANS, were totally ignored, disregarded and discountenanced with, as the Governor has continued with his show of indignation and deliberately abandoned them to their plights and peril. “His Excellency Sir, I want to state categorically that your government has done nothing for the young Imolites schooling in FUTOW and FEDPONEK.

You gave free education to IMSU stars and to the state polytechnic Umuagwo, what happens to over 85% of students who are Imolites in FUTOW? What happened to about the 90% of students who are also Imolites in Federal Polytechnic Nekede? Come and do our road! That’s all we are asking for”, he implored, albeit impatiently. Continuing, the students’ union activist reminded Governor Okorocha that it took FUTOW and not IMSU or UNIJOS to confer on him a doctorate degree and wonders why it was not reason enough for the Governor to feel the pains and agony of those who use FUTOW-Ihiagwa-Nekede road.

“It is your five years in office, Sir we had not benefited from your government. We have been abandoned”, he lamented further accusing the Governor of hating students of the two schools.
It was on this note that he read the riot act to Owelle Rochas Okorocha, handing down the following ultimatum: that we are giving the state government a period of two weeks to commence work on the road and that if at the end or expiration of the two weeks ultimatum, nothing is done, “we shall embark on a peaceful protest from Federal Polytechnic Nekede to Government House Owerri through Naze junction where road users may not be able to access that major road for like four hours”.

In his conclusion, he stated that the flimsy excuses that the road is a federal road is an act of deceit and told Governor Okorocha that he has no reason to allow his own people to suffer the difficulty in accessing their school premises at the same time that TETFUND and UBEC have taken over funding of IMSU and others.
