Two vigilante men were shot dead while about three injured when a gang of three armed men on motor bike attacked the vigilante men at Orji Junction while on patrol of the area in a bus.

Narrating the incident to newsmen in his palace, HRH Eze Dr. Innocent Opara, Eze Ugo II of Orji said that the armed men who were on motorbike were coming along Orji-Owerri Road after robbing some people along Orji road and suddenly ran into the Orji Vigilante bus and started shooting indiscriminately which resulted in killing two of the vigilante men and about three injured.

Eze Opara said the vigilante were not ready for combat even as the robbers who were armed to the teeth riddled the bus with bullets and escaped through Mbieri Road.

The traditional ruler used the opportunity to call on the police to beef up security in the area even as he appealed to the government and Inspector General of Police to intensify effort toward protecting lives and properties of the people by sending armed police men to every community in the State.

He however, assured the people of the area not to fear or panic over the incident, stressing that his men will go back and strategize with a view to checkmating further occurrence of such incident. He sorrowfully consoled the families that lost their relatives, stating that it was very unfortunate especially as they were serving their father land. Meanwhile, the bodies of the two dead men have been deposited at the morgue, while those injured are receiving treatment at the hospital.
