Worried by the menace of the Fulani herdsmen across Nigeria, especially the killings in Enugu State on April 25, a Pro Igbo group, Igbo National Council, INC, has asked President Mahammadu Buhari and the Inspector general of police, IGP, Mr. Solomon Arase to bring the perpetrators to justice, swiftly.

A press statement in Owerri, the Imo State Capital, endorsed by Chilos Godsent and Zulu Ofoelue, President and General Secretary, respectively, INC tasked the IGP to constitute a National Task Force to commence a stop and search of the nomadic herdsmen and prosecute any of them found with any weapons of mass destruction.

Part of the Statement read “in view of the above, the Igbo National Council calls on the Inspector general of police to immediately constitute a National Task Force to commence a stop and search of the nomadic herdsmen, arrest and prosecute any of them found with dangerous weapons and those who graze on farmlands with crops.”

According to the Pro-Igbo, if the Federal Government fails to take immediate action, a time will come when members of communities will resort to self-defense.

“On the foregoing, the Igbo National Council (INC) calls on the Igbo youths to rise up in their numbers now to defend the Igbo Land, we also urge all the Pro-Igbo groups where ever they are to begin to mobilize, organize and take patriotic actions to defend the Igbo race and humanity in general against another pogrom”. The statement reads.

According to the group, it becomes worrisome that the Fulani herdsmen are acting with impunity by taking over farmlands in Igboland and still kill the land owners.
