The building which collapsed on Sunday, April 10, 2016 is one of the model school buildings erected by His Excellency Governor Rochas Okorocha in his first tenure as the governor of Imo State. The collapse has casted doubt on the durability of the school buildings which are scattered in various Wards of the 27 Local Government Area of Imo State.

With Imolites crying foul on the durability of the buildings, members of People’s Democratic Party in the state will be glad they lost the ownership battle on the buildings during the 2015 general elections in the state.

Members of the party had earlier counted the projects for former president, Goodluck Jonathan, in a bid to soften the minds of Imolites during the last presidential election campaign, and they would be glad that Gov. Okorocha won the battle because they would have been taking the blame of the disaster.

The residents of Orji, also called on the state government to ensure that the school buildings are constructed with quality materials as the first safety measure in ensuring that pupils who use them are safe.
