Imo Government has promised to do everything within its power to ensure that the flood victims in riverine areas of Oguta local government of Imo State do not feel extreme sense of loss and pain.

Governor Okorocha who was represented by His Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere made this remark when he visited Omachishi community of Oguta (I) to take stock of the level of destruction caused by the flood menace.

Prince Eze Madumere while delivering Governor Okorocha’s message commiserated with the victims, describing the flood incidence as a disaster which has caused pain and huge loss to the people. He however urged them to keep off from the bank of the river so as not to avoid avoidable accident.

The number two citizen of Imo State said that health workers and environmentalists will be deployed to be with them so as to provide medication and make effort to prevent any epidemics that may arise from the flood.

Speaking further, he said he was in the know that the Deputy Chief of Staff, Government, Mr. Kingsley Uju had visited with relief material but that other relief items are on the way to serve as palliatives to them.

He also averred that the officials of the National Emergency Management Agency of Nigeria would also ensure that they are properly settled to avoid any avoidable pain.

He therefore assured the people of Oguta that Government of imo State will liaise with the Federal government to ensure that they get necessary relief so as not to feel the heaviness of impact in due course.

Earlier during the visit, Mr. Sabinus Asuzu decried the huge losses incurred due to the ravaging flood as their farms and homes have been submerged in water. He feared that the incident might portend untold hardship on the people of the area who are largely farmers.

Mrs. Joshephine Nwadiaro who is in her late 60s said they need urgent medical attention for most of them who sustained various degrees of injuries while they were scampering for safety. She however thanked God that no life was lost.

For the Youth President, Mr. Vincent Azogu, he commended the government of Imo State for her timely intervention through her various agencies and the presence of Governor Okorocha to see things himself through his deputy, Prince Eze Madumere.

He therefore requested for a sustained engagement of the relevant agencies to ensure people do not suffer so much pains. He also called on both State and Federal government to come to their aid since their means of livelihood have been temporarily put out since they have been submerged in water.
