Ex-Governor Ikedi Ohakim, last Friday October 31, 2014, threw decorum to the wings when he engaged Distinguished Senator Ifeanyi Araraume in a fisticuffs that left visiting PDP National officers bewildered and embarrassed.
Ohakim had carried his deep seated animosity, hatred and vendetta to the extremes when he ignored caution and dared the Senator who also comes from the same Isiala Mbano LGA (Osu Clan) as him, to touch him and die. Without waiting for Araraume to make good his threat to slap the face of a recalcitrant Ikedi Godson Ohakim, the highly infuriated ex-Governor charged at Araraume, going straight for his jugular and threatening to strangle him dead, before help and rescue separated  the two from killing themselves.

The occasion was a crucial meeting of the PDP Governorship aspirants at the state party headquarters along Okigwe road, Owerri. Ohakim who had earlier pleaded repentance and remorse against those he offended in the course of the discharge of his official duties and challenges as the Executive Governor of Imo State between May 29, 2007 and May 29, 2011, had arrived before his brother and fellow governorship aspirant, Senator Ifeanyi Araraume for the briefing and attendant distribution of materials for the PDP delegates election which was assumed to have held on Saturday November 1, 2014, even though reports have it that violence and snatching of electoral materials took toll on what ought to be a popularity contests.
Rather than allow the proceedings for the day to go on, uninterrupted, an overzealous Ikedi Ohakim, in desperate efforts to frustrate Distinguished Senator Ifeanyi Araraume from the Governorship race, drew the attention of the Chairman of “Delegates Election Committee (DEC)”, to a certain petition written against the Senator and insisted that the purported petition which according to Ohakim was filed by PDP leaders from Isiala Mbano LGA, must be addressed before any materials could be distributed. It was at the point of the persuation that Distinguished Senator Ifeanyi Araraume himself arrived, ostensibly angry over what he must have been told of the evil that Ikedi Ohakim had plotted against him. Still seething with anger, he marched off to where Ikedi Ohakim was still standing and pilling pressure on the National officer to call up for discussion, the petition against Araraume and threatened to slap his (Ohakims) tiny face. It was at this juncture that Ohakim, reacting like a wounded lion and an animal bitten by a viper and thus rampaging and influenced by the load of venom in his veins, went for Araraume’s throat and was at the verge of strangling him when other governorship aspirants, security personnel and party officials intervened and stopped the fight abruptly. The show of shame according to pundits, proves that Ikedi Ohakim has defied his claims of a repentant politician who visited Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka for a confession, restitution and baptism. “The recent show of brigandage and gansterism is an indication that like the high handed Executive Governor he was, he wants another opportunity as a Governor to exhibit unrestrained wickedness, vendetta, vindictiveness and hostility on the likes of Distinguished Senator Ifeanyi Araraume, if he could do this in the public, few months after visiting Fr. Mbaka”.
An eye witness account which condemned the act of violence unleashed on Araraume by Ikedi Ohakim was equally shocked that the ex-Governor who literarily prostrated before Ifeanyi Godwin Araraume to rescue him from glaring disgrace before the supplementary election of 2011, could turn a vampire to devour a man who was so compassionate to his entreaties and deployed his foot soldiers to work for Ohakim in 2011. Araraume’s action in favour of Chief Ikedi Ohakim had pitched him against some of his very close associates such as Okenze Obinna of Ngor Okpala and others who then expressed surprises that Araraume could be easily swayed into considering Ikedi Ohakim’s pretentious attributes of deceit. They argued that the unexpected forgiving action means that Araraume does not know who his worst enemies are and can hardly learn from history or experience. It was in line with this spirit of brotherliness that they recalled that after Ex-Governor Achike Udenwa had used his position to scuttle every efforts made by Senator Ifeanyi Araraume to succeed him including the last minute re-deployment of the then Resident Electoral Commissioner in Imo State who was resolute on announcing the polls results that indicate that Senator Ifeanyi Araraume won the elections of 2007, Araraume still went ahead to not only reconcile with Udenwa, he supported Udenwa’s nomination and quest to replace Engr. Charles Ugwu as Minister and even made him the leader of his 2011 governorship electioneering until it further dawned on him that like a leopard, Achike Udenwa was unforgiven having sabotaged Araraume twice. Even in the post election activities, whereas Ikedi Ohakim had his wife appointed a Federal Board Chairman under Goodluck Jonathan, Senator Ifeanyi Araraume got nothing for all his investments, sacrifices and support for PDP for which he destabilized the APP, in Imo State.
That Araraume is parading about with those who orchestrated the irredeemable blackmail that robbed him of electoral victories in 2007 and 2011, makes him a forgiving heart and a true Christian and not the pretentious Ikedi Ohakim whose ambition to re-conquer and re-colonize Imo State has cost so many lives and the comfort of so many, including the incarceration of Citizen Samuelson Iwuoha and the wife who are presently languishing in prison custody.
Political pundits however advised the duo of Senator Ifeanyi Araraume and his brother Ikedi Ohakim to sheathe the sword and allow peace to reign in Imo State in order to justify the confidence reposed in them by those who honoured them as Knight of St. John’s International (KSJI) of the Catholic Church and Knight of St. Christopher (KSC) of the Anglican Communion, respectively. They opined also that since two of them have refused to agree on common grounds of brotherliness, they should honourably leave the stage especially now that President Jonathan appears to have identified an alternative Governorship material or hopeful who parades more decent attributes and higher intellectual capacity than the two of them. Obi Adim, they argued as an international diplomat is eminently qualified to displaced them and was therefore urged to rise up to the occasion and prove to Imo people that such discredited leaders as Ohakim cannot hold them to ransom, once more.
