After several weeks of doubts as to the terminal date for the State Executive Committee of Imo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the National Executive Committee has pronounced October 31st, 2014 as its expiring date.
However, in a desperate move to thwart the directive of the Abuja based leadership of the party, the Imo State Chapter of PDP, led by Barr. Nnamdi Anyaehie, himself an imposition on the party leadership, has gone to courts to challenge the timely dissolution of the state PDP Executives.

The current Executives came into existence in 2010 when Chief Ikedi Ohakim as the Executive Governor unilaterally imposed the Barr. Eze Duruiheoma led State Executive Committee on the party to facilitate his re-election emergence and sustain his stranglehold on the party. The leadership of the party was at this time hotly contested by several factional camps each claiming the endorsement of President Goodluck to produce a replacement for the highly discredited Marcel Nlemigbo led Imo PDP. While the faction which hid under the aegis of Alliance for Credible and Good Governance was led by Chief Achike Udenwa and notable governorship aspirants such as Senator Araraume, Barr. Ike Ibe, Humphery Anumudu, Kelechi Kennedy Nwagwu had opted for Hon. Elthelbert Okwaraonyia as  State Chairman of Imo PDP, Chief Rochas Okorocha was pushing the candidature of Chief F.C. Dike, (SAN) as State Chairman. Their inability of the two warring factions to endorse a common candidate forced the National Chairman of PDP then to settle for the Eze Duruiheoma Chairmanship with Marcel Nlemigbo accepting to deputize for Duruiheoma. The confirmation of Duruiheoma by the NEC of PDP angered the group led by Udenwa, Araraume, Alex Obi etc. They were left with no other viable option other than to defect to the only alternative credible political platform, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) under which platform Distinguished Senator Ifeanyi Araraume contested the governorship position against Ikedi Ohakim. The battle royale between Ohakim and Araraume both of who are of Okigwe zone and Isiala Mbano LGA origin paved the way for another Orlu candidate in Owelle Rochas Okorocha who had earlier indicated interest to contest the Orlu Senatorial seat before Chief Ralph Uwazuruike convinced him otherwise, to win the election, coupled with the glaring betrayal of thrust by such ACN leaders as Dr. Alex Obi, Achike Udenwa and Felix Chidi Idiga. Unfortunately, Senator Ifeanyi Araraume who boasted of possessing very deep political experience and exploits could not read in between the lines of such obvious acts of sabotage and betrayal when Barr. Ike Ibe, paraded by Udenwa,  dumped the ACN and joined Social Democratic Mega Party (SDMP) or when Hon. Alex Emeziem (Jnr) abandoned the ACN at the promptings of his god father and uncle Dr. Alex Obi to re-join Ohakim and Ihedioha for which Ihedioha smoothened his appointment as Chairman of the FCT Scholarship Board, Abuja.
Since then, Imo PDP has lost Chief Marcel Nlemigbo (MORCON) to Rochas Okorochas as Deputy Chairman of Imo PDP, and Blyden Amajirionwu, former State Publicity Secretary to APGA. In their places, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha who virtually was the sole administrator and supervising minister of Imo PDP singularly appointed a state Deputy Chairman in General Ogbonna/Chikwe, a State Chairman in Barr. Nnamdi Anyaehie and a State Publicity Secretary in Barr. Enyinnaya Onnegbu
It is this seeming hijack of the state party structure by Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha who in a bid to take-over the party facilitated the appointment of Barr. Ezeduruiheoma as Chairman, National Population Commission (NPC) Abuja and Sir George Egu as Chairman Federeal Board of FMC Bida in Niger State. But whereas Eze Duruiheoma accepted his new responsibility and challenge and vacated office, Sir George Egu is sitting tight as State Secretary of PDP and Federal Board Chairman, all at the same time. The clumsy, lopsided and unproductive party structure whereby appointments are made verbally and dictatorially has forced other interest groups especially among the governorship aspirants to agitate and insist on the immediate dissolution of the State Executive Committee which they claim to be illegal and unconstitutional in view of the fact that the tenure has expired.
However, in a desperate show of braggadocio, grandstanding and arrogance, the State Executive rather than reason with the Stakeholders most of whom they have willfully extorted and exploited to part with millions of naira, without opening up the space to give them a sense of belonging, have gone to court and recently succeeded in obtaining an interlocutory injunction restraining the National Executive Committee (NEC) of PDP from going ahead to dissolve the State PDP EXCO. Political pundits are worried that by resorting to court, they have defied the promised level playing field for Aspirants. Besides Col Ahmadu Ali had while addressing Party Stalwarts during the National Harmonization and Integration Committee which he led, visited Imo State PDP, condemned Distinguished Senator Ifeanyi Araraume for dragging the  party to court in 2007 without exhausting all peaceful avenues for solving the suspension placed on him. It is hoped that Barr. Nnamdi Anyaehie led EXCO will be reprimanded.
