Suspected cult members on Wednesday shot dead a fresh graduate of Political Science and Public Administration of the Imo State University, Owerri, Emeka Ndubueze.

Ndubueze, popularly known as Jayboy was a 22 -year –old 2016 graduate of the university who hailed from Amaigbo, in the Nwangele Local Government Area of the state.

He was awaiting his call-up letter for the National Youth Service Corps when he was killed. It was learnt that he was shot dead around 10.30 pm by some unidentified cult members operating on the campus.

His killing, sources said, took place around Davida Hostel on Aladinma Street, popularly called IMSU Back gate. Students, who spoke with our correspondent on condition of anonymity on Thursday, said Ndubueze was the target of his killers.

“They went directly to him and shot him on the chest repeatedly before fleeing the scene.

“The killing may not be unconnected with the inter-cult war currently ongoing on the campus between Aye and Baga confraternities, which has resulted in the death of some students,” one of the students said.

He decried the killings, saying the situation was putting the lives and academic pursuits of other students in jeopardy.

When contacted, the IMSU Public Relations Officer, Obi Njoku, confirmed the death of the student, whom he said was a fresh graduate of the university. He said the management of the school was working hard to bring his killers to justice.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Andrew Enwerem, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said he had yet to be briefed.
