Innonews international.com who visited some of the schools gathered that they were actually invited to Owerri for query and were warned never to allow members of the opposition party to share anything in the name of assisting pupils.
It was learnt that, the state government was jilted by that singular act of Nwachukwu, as they wondered why an individual would out of his goodwill distribute free exercise books of that magnitude, while they are using the State fund to finance theirs.
One of the head teacher informed us under strict anonymity that they were told to always take delivery of such gifts from the donors and ask for directions from the authorities on what to do to those gifts, as against allowing them share such gift themselves and speak to the pupils.
However, it was revealed that a day after the distribution of the books in Orlu, the wife of the governor, Lolo Nneoma Okorocha was quoted to have told her guests on the event held in a school field at Okporo Orlu, that they should not allow some individuals who are against the declaration of free education in the State to deceive them with free books.
Though efforts made to hear from the commissioner of secondary and non-formal education lady Ugochi Nnanna-Okoro proved abortive, even as the office of the wife of the Governor, Imo State could not be reached as at the time of filing this story.
Meanwhile, Imo people have condemned the government for attacking the Head teachers, saying that they should not be involved in any political activities and they were at liberty to welcome anyone or group irrespective of political party affiliations. Chief Michael Okafor, a community leader in Orlu encouraged Chief Nwachukwu not to be detered over the matter, and thanked him for squeezing out a little from his stipend to promote the “Transformation Agenda” of President Goodluck Jonathan, and the effective representation of Senator Hope Uzodinma in Orlu zone at the senate.
